The Role of HR Software

One of the most important parts of HR management is HR software . About a decade ago, HR management was done mostly with spreadsheets but today, complete HR information systems are available making the work of human resource managers much easier than what it was before.

Today, we see that employee information, employee transactions, process management and even issue resolution are all being handled by HR software. In today’s world of business where productivity is key, it is understandable that business owners are demanding that technology meet their need. However, it is of utter importance that the right HR software is implemented in a company. The right software should be an extension of the HR team in a company making the HR department more accessible to the employees of the company. The right software will be easy to work with instead. If you realize that your HR software is being seen as something that is alien or if it is creating distances between the HR department and the employees of the company, two things can be wrong. You have either implemented the wrong software or you have not properly implemented the right software.

Properly implemented the right HR software will result in the employees of the company having reliable, consistent, and repeatable services from the HR team. The employees are the main asset of the company which means that they need to be properly taken care of. Their needs and requests must be dealt with in a proper manner. (more...)

How to Ensure Security over the Internet

The internet is the fastest method of communication between people in different parts of the world. Virtually countless bits of information are sent over the internet some of which are extremely sensitive and that can be used to cause a great deal of harm to people and organizations. Because of the sensitive information that is transferred over the internet, criminals take every opportunity to gain access to information that belongs to other people.

While enjoying the many benefits of the internet, a person’s computer can be infected by malicious programs which seek to collect sensitive information or to control the computer. This brings about the need for internet security software which can sometimes be a one stop shop for all a person’s security needs. There are several pieces of software that organizations use to discover discrepancies in the system. This auditing software can detect any discrepancies which could be an indication of an attack by malicious software but they cannot prevent against the action of the malicious software.

That is where an organization or a person needs to install dedicated software that helps to protect a compute against hackers, spammers, and malicious software. There are many information security companies which provide internet security software both for home use and in commercial settings. The different software runs protocols which work to identify malicious software and to remove such software from computer systems. With good security software that is kept up to date with the latest updates, a person doesn’t need to worry about internet security threats. (more...)

The Benefits of Fibre Optic Broadband

In the UK access to the internet over the last ten years or so has been possible by means of signals carried over the existing system of wires set up for telephone services, and although this is reasonably satisfactory it is somewhat limited in terms of capacity and speed. The existing copper cables are able to support broadband at speeds of up to 16 Mbps, but in practice such speeds are rarely achieved because the speed reduces as the length of transmitting wire increases. Fibre optic cable is made up of many ultra-thin strands of glass which transmit information by means of light signals which are about as fast as you can get in the universe, and they show minimal drop off with distance. Faster transmission of information will mean that businesses can benefit greatly by increasing their efficiency in many areas, and information can be exchanged across the world faster than ever before which will benefit technological progress too.

BT is spending a great deal of money to establish the necessary network for fibre optic broadband over the next few years. Some of this network will be "Fibre to the Cabinet" (FTTC) where the main incoming fibre optic cable finishes at a cabinet in the street and from there the signal runs via copper wires as at present. This will be a big improvement on present speeds but will be slightly restricted by the end supply of copper. It is estimated that this will give download speeds of up to 38 Mbps. The alternative of "Fibre optic to the premises" will be even more efficient, going straight to the home or business via fibre optic cables.

It is reckoned that, at present fibre optic broadband is available to about half of UK homes and businesses, and that by 2015 about two thirds of users will be able to benefit from fibre optic broadband in one form or the other. The service is being gradually rolled out across the country so for a while there will be some who can take advantage of the better speeds but many who can't for the time being. It is possible to check fibre optic broadband coverage in your area by submitting your postcode to a checker on a suitable website, or you can look up a list of BT exchanges that are due to be enabled for FTTC and see the scheduled dates. Businesses can check on BT's "Infinity for Business" website to get all the information. Up until now the providers of fibre optic broadband have concentrated mainly on large towns and cities, and only gradually are more rural areas being added. The cities of London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Stoke-on-Trent, and York are already well connected.
